Diversity and inclusion are Canada’s strengths. Creating more equitable, diverse and inclusive workplaces helps build a country where every Canadian has a fair and equal chance to reach their full potential.

Since the introduction of the Act, continued progress has been made for the four designated groups–women, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities and members of visible minorities, in federally regulated workplaces, but many workers are still facing barriers to employment.

That is why, on July 14, 2021, the Minister of Labour Filomena Tassi launched, along with the Minister of Diversity and Inclusion and Youth, Bardish Chagger, and the Chair of the Task Force, Adelle Blackett, the Employment Equity Act Review Task Force to conduct the most extensive review of the Act since its introduction in 1986.

The modernization of the Act is an important step in advancing the state of equity, diversity and inclusion in federally regulated workplaces.

Canadians and stakeholders are invited to:

consult the Employment Equity Act Review Task Force website for more information about the members, mandate and terms of reference; and,

share their views on the review of the Act by email to EDSC.LEE-EEA.ESDC@labour-travail.gc.ca.

The Task Force’s final report is expected to be published on Canada.ca in Early 2022.
