Canada’s vaccine plan:

Canada is well positioned to provide access to COVID-19 vaccines to all Canadians in 2021, having negotiated agreements with 7 promising vaccine manufacturers.

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) has established agreements with Astra Zeneca, Sanofi and GlaxoSmithKline, Novavax, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, Medicago, and Moderna to secure up to 414 million doses of their COVID-19 vaccine candidates.

VACCINES

  • Canada is a leader in immunization – we are in a very good position from the perspective of having access to effective and promising candidates of vaccines
  • While scientists around the world do important work to find a vaccine for COVID-19, we’re making sure that Canadians will be able to get vaccinated when the time comes.
  • That’s why we’re securing a range of vaccines and hundreds of millions of doses, so that Canadians are safe and well-served.
  • A few vaccine candidates have published some promising results and seems to be moving forward quickly.
  • We will continue to work with all partners to ensure that Canadians will have access to a vaccine, when it becomes available.

VACCINE DEPLOYMENT

  • We’re working hard to make sure Canadians will be able to get vaccinated when the time comes.
  • Work is already well underway with the provinces and territories to create a distribution plan so Canadians can get vaccinated.
  • Our approach has always been informed by science and evidence, and this is no different. Working with experts like the National Advisory Committee on Immunization and other public health experts, we’ll make sure that Canadians are safe from COVID-19.

VACCINE CONFIDENCE

  • When a vaccine becomes available, it will be important that Canadians get immunized.
  • We have a thorough review system to ensure vaccines are safe and effective.
  • We are working closely with international partners to share information about possible COVID-19 vaccines.
  • We will never put Canadians’ health and safety at risk.

NACI – VACCINE RECOMMENDATIONS

  • We know that vaccines are a critical way to limit the spread of COVID-19. We also know that we won’t have enough vaccine to immunize everyone at once.
  • We asked the National Advisory Council on Immunization, an independent, external group of experts, to provide recommendations on who should be prioritized for early vaccination.
  • We know that we need to protect Canadians, and protect our most vulnerable.
